Introduction

English

Guesthouse Casa Pombal opened its doors and received the first guests in Spring 1993.

Casa Pombal was mentioned in the Guide de Routard for the first time in 1994. Later it appeared also in Rough Guide (author's choice), Lonely Planet (author's choice) Michael Muller Verlag, Fodor's, Trotter, Geo Guide, Special Places to Stay, the Dutch ANWB guide and many more, and in several international magazines and newspapers.

Thanks to these international publications we received (and still receive) guests from all over the world, Europe, Canada, the US, Australia, South America, Asia, Russia, Israel, Brazil , to name but a few .

Due to the interesting history of Coimbra, dating from far before the Roman period, and the historical buildings and sights, we receive guests during the whole year.

Many famous celebrities, such as Eça de Queiros, Salazar, Miguel Torga, José Afonso, Adriano Correio Oliveira and Dr. Camacho Vieira, lived and studied in this ancient quarter.

Although the house has recently been renovated (2010) and has been maintained regularly since 1993, the equipmant is modest. Guestrooms are functional and cozy, with private or shared bathroom. B&B Casa Pombal unfortunately is not suitable for people who are less mobile. Guests of all ages but young of heart and spirit will find our house the ideal base to visit medieval Coimbra.

Enthusiasm for the many historical sites and cultural events has always been the drive for the staff of Casa Pombal. Personal attention is our strength and has resulted in positive reviews at, for example, booking.com (2012, 2013) and Trip advisor (2012, 2013, 2014) from whom we have received rewards over the past years.

Casa Pombal is situated in the heart of the historical center. The university is almost our neighbout, which makes our position ideal not only for tourists but also for people attending conferences, doing research or taking a course at the university.

Nederlands
